Curacao - Spanish Water
Okay we admit, we may have a slight addiction to territories of the Netherlands, but how could you not. We start this journey south of what we explored last year in the area of Spanish Water/Jan Thiel.

As per our previous post, this trip started out a bit rocky. With missing flights, missing day one in Airbnb, missing the owners of the Airbnb…
But the maddness didn’t stop there, once we had arrived at Curacao Int’l airport, from Aruba Int’l airport, we find that they had sent out backs… yes… to Aruba. This was of course after we get off our flight, have to find pens to fill out customs paperwork… because you know… people just randomly always carry pens so why provide pens at the station where you have pen chains… but I digress.
We're stoked about that, can’t you tell
F*CK!, alright so day 2 wearing the same clothes, we’re on a beautiful island, ready to relax in our gorgeous Airbnb.
As per usual for most of our trips, before we get to our place of stay, we always make a “quick” run to the grocery to grab what should be a weeks worth of groceries, however usually ends up being 2 days of wine/alcohol, and endless quarantine style snacking. However it is fair to mention that, Curacao has Dutch grocery stores… yes… you can buy the same quality, same items there, that you can in the Netherlands. Hello charcuterie board, Duvel and bitterballen.
Well… we head to our Airbnb, having messaged the guy about our delayed flight and that we’d miss a day, can’t get it. Gated locked property (with 4 apartments on a property I believe). No way to get in.
We went to their “website” and tried calling them on that number. It took over an hour to get a hold of someone, which was mostly due to the kid woman who snagged our upstairs apartment (which we had selected as the bottom apartment was opened to the pool and baby can just… fall in and die), knowing the owners and giving them a call.
Her and her husband kindly allowed us to encroach on their space, and kept us company until the owner arrived. However this incident will essentially prevent us from in the future from booking places that do not have an automated way to get into the building, as travel errors can lead to delays, or altered schedules and this was a lesson learned…
Only lesson 17 of this trip. Cool.
After our settling in to our … again beautiful Airbnb, we noticed a common theme beginning in critical errors about stays on the island. Electricity is expensive (fine we understand that fully), but the kicker… no fans. Why god why, are there no fans. This is akin to people traveling from the Caribbean in winter to the US and we don’t provide heating… it’s illogical. Also fans are a great mosquito deterrent.
Okay we just cover ourselves head to toe in mosquito repellent 19 times a day and keep our windows and doors open to the main area and keep the bedroom closed with the window AC. Sweat makes the skin glow and sweats out the wine.
While Ti stays with the baby (story of her life), Trev goes to grab our luggage. Yay new clothes are the best.
The next morning Trevor is supposed to go to Bonaire. So he gets up and heads to the airport. Lesson 18 is coming with him forgetting his passport. Oh no! Divi Divi air however was very reasonable and just moved his flight to the next day. This was nice as it allowed our parents to visit Bonaire as well.
Meanwhile after cursing the wind for a bit, we put the bubs in his little baby rash guard and hop in the pool for the only feasible way to cool down in this humidity. 20/10 would recommend.
